My name is Andrea Jackson - casually known as Drea and I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in June of 1992. Ironically, I am a cusp Cancer born during hurricane Andrew - so as you can imagine, I am quite a spiraling and complex yet soft af on the inside character. And no, I was not named after the hurricane, I was named after my father who's name is also Andrew. Anyways, somehow I ended up in Arkansas, Indiana, Delaware, and most recently Atlanta. I never had the privilege of growing up from infancy through adolescence in one "hometown" but if you ask me where I am from, I will say Louisiana because that's on my birth certificate. Now if you ask me my roots, well that's Mississippi via the parentals. Bottom line I am a southern girl at heart.
I moved to Atlanta to attend Spelman College and graduated in 2014 with a BA in Economics and #BlackGirlMagic. I owe a large part of who I am today to the Atlanta University Center for challenging me to unapologetically embrace my inner voice and uplift those around me. Beginning my journey through womanhood alongside thousands of like-minded black men and women was beyond magical.
Post grad, I worked a full-time job in marketing & advertising and waited tables on the side for extra cash. Its crazy because before Spelman, I never thought I was charismatic, assertive, or relatable enough to work as waitress but my success in hospitality came naturally for some reason. I think it was something about the exchange of energies that showed me more to life than just my story that made serving such a joy. What I am getting at here is that there is beauty and fulfillment outside of your comfort zone and I've learned to embrace tf out of that. This is exactly how I found my talent in being an on-camera personality.
It all started at Live Hip Hop Daily as a co-host for Urban Overdose, an urban influenced live-stream podcast with a feminist twist. From there I branched out as a correspondent, red carpet host, and on-camera personality for Sweet Candor TV, ATL Live on the Park, and RnBuntapped respectively. I have always had a love for pop culture and entertainment but it grew fonder when I recognized the influence social media and digital content had on society. More importantly, the fact that individuals have the power to position their selves as public figures on these platforms to share their experiences and passions with others has inspired me to do the same.
My goal is to use the talent and the gift god gave me to push the culture forward through my favorite form of art, music.
